Yoenis Cespedes isn’t done yet.

The mercurial former Mets outfielder is attempting a comeback.

The 35-year-old Cespedes will hold a showcase for teams on March 2 in Fort Pierce, Fla, The Athletic is reporting. Cespedes appeared in only eight games last year before opting out due to what then-general manager Brodie Van Wagenen called “COVID-related reasons.”

Cespedes has only played in 127 games since 2016 due to a myriad of different injuries, including surgeries on both heels and an ankle fracture suffered during an incident with a wild boar on his ranch.

The circumstances around Cespedes’ opt out were strange. The Mets were caught off guard. Van Wagenen said at the time it came as a surprise to the team. The team was in Atlanta, and Cespedes didn’t show up for a loss to the Braves. Initially, they couldn’t get in touch with him.

He packed his stuff from the team’s hotel and merely left. His agent informed the team of his decision during the game. Reports came out that Cespedes was unhappy with his role and felt his at-bats were being limited so he couldn’t meet bonuses in his reworked contract.
